Getting Involved
Our Structure
The Timeslip Society is a UK network of historical enthusiasts.
The Time Council
We take responsibility for the UK Society as a whole. We run the hub blog and calendar advertising everything our local groups do, as well as setting the direction for the Society.

Groups
We oversee an entire area of the country - for example, the Midlands, or Greater London. We run a local hub blog, and keep our community together - welcoming newcomers, and ensuring regular events. We report back to the Time Council, and help them make decisions.

Branches
When a local Group gains enough members, they will learn what eras, social classes and moments in history their members are most passionate about. If some members of the community develop a shared focus, they may wish to establish a branch: for example, people reconstructing the Edwardian Suffragist movement, the Victorian unwashed, the Pink Ladies, the Decadents, and so on. They act as a group-within-a-Group: organising events and classes around their chosen theme, for the benefit of the whole Group.

Our Future
The Timeslip Society presently has three members: me, and two of my mates. We hope to establish something akin to the SCA: charitable status and a real constitution, a community with traditions and titles, its own little world within a world.Time travellers know that history is delicate - the flap of a butterfly's wings causes chaos throughout the timeline. So while we have these hopes for the future, we know traditions must be grown organically and be created collectively by the people within a community.
At present, our goal is to:
- Set up a network of existing groups and people who enjoy recreating our period for fun, to start connecting people to tea parties as soon as possible
- Run a local London Group
- Work with anyone who's excited by the concept of a Timeslip Society to set up a local Group of their own
We might also create sub-networks for people in certain eras of time: early Victorians, late Victorians, Regency and so on.
Non-Timeslip Events
There are already many groups in the UK which do “timeslip-ish” things. We don’t want to absorb, supersede, compete, disgruntle, or discomfort any of these charming people. However, we are very keen to affiliate with them and cross-promote events. The Timeslip Society began because I wanted to find like-minded souls, and struggled to find local groups doing this kind of thing. It was fairly easy to find re-enactor groups – professional educators who demonstrate crafts and eras to the public – and historical societies – people who want to attend lectures, days out, and learn more about their passion era. But more challenging to find people who just wanted to play dress-up in the past.
However, I know there are Steampunk clubs, Austen clubs, motoring groups, as well as individuals such as the Christian family who prefer to live in the past full-time. My hope is that the Society will serve as a networking hub for all these groups and people to find one another: you can list your organisation, and promote events, or leave your name as an individual looking for like-minded friends.
