Our Values

The Society should be a welcoming environment. Above all things, be kind.

~~*~~

We are all learners: and our mission is not perfectly accurate historical reproduction, but having fun and playing make-believe with friends. We encourage members to learn more about the past by daytripping there, and hope Groups will support one another to practice skills, share books, and teach one another. However, we prioritise enthusiasm, happiness, and play.

We do affiliate with communities which do place a higher emphasis on historical authenticity; we note this in our directory to help connect people and groups who share the same goals.

~~*~~

There is plenty about the past we ought not revive. Our period is 1800-1970: the events we portray are recent enough to have an ongoing impact on living humans. We cannot, and should not, attempt to ignore or minimise the realities of life in the past; and many are drawn to history because they want to learn more about how people like them used to live.

To be represented as a Group under our banner, you commit to creating an inclusive environment.

This is a delicate topic. Do your best. Ensure your members feel safe and respected by not replicating or romanticising unacceptable historic behavior. Be thoughtful about how your group engages with the uglier parts of history. Be aware of your friends and kind to those around you.
